Explore the exciting field of engineering! Go ENGINEERING GIRL DAY Iis a fun and free opportunity for Grade 7 - 10 girls to learn about the exciting world of engineering. This year the annual event will be offered virtually across Canada at over twenty universities with engineering programs, with UPEI’s “home edition” scheduled for Saturday, November 7. Students must register by October 23rd.

STEAM Fellowship is a Canadian registered charity that equips students with skills in data analytics and scientific communication through mentorship and experiential learning programs. In partnership with Roche Canada, SAS Canada, Canadian Science Publishing, and Digital Science, STEM Fellowship is organizing the 2020-2021 High School Big Data Challenge on the theme of Using the Power of Open 

  • This year’s Big Data Challenge (BDC) will encourage students to apply analytical and computational approaches to explore the complexities with real-world problems such as equality in education to develop sustainable solutions to local and global issues. Teams of up to 4 will be given learning resources, data sets, tools for data analysis, and the help of academia to explore socioeconomic and educational Open Data. Resources and mentorship are provided online, so teams can work remotely from any location with Internet access. The challenge will also allow you to network industrial professionals. At the end of the challenge, research abstracts of all teams will be submitted and published through the peer-reviewed NRC Research Press STEM Fellowship Journal. The top teams are invited to present their findings in front of industry and academic experts to compete for academic and monetary prizes.

 

  • The registration deadline to form teams of up to 4 students is October 20, 2020. The challenge period will last from October 20, 2020, to January 22, 2021. Through this challenge, students will be able to collect and investigate data, analyze their information, hypothesize and formulate solutions, and present their findings in the form of a scientific report.
